Katrine Horn works with ambitious women ready to step out of autopilot and into aligned, self-directed lives. A former professional harpist who toured Europe for 16 years, she guides clients to make decisions from confidence rather than fear. Her work centers on helping women get clear on the life they actually want, rather than the one they fell into by happenstance.
In this conversation, Katrine traces her unconventional path from a childhood fixation on the harp, to emigrating alone from Denmark to London at 18, to restoring a French ruin into a manor house with a concert hall on the top floor. She talks about why the harp was long dismissed as “a woman’s instrument,” and how that same quiet sidelining shows up wherever women’s work gets trivialized.

What if the life you’re living at 45 was never something you actually chose? In this episode, Karen sits down with Katrine Horn, an international life coach and TEDx speaker who helps ambitious women step out of autopilot and into lives and leadership that feel fully aligned. Katrine guides clients to make decisions from confidence rather than fear, and to live on the edge of what’s possible.
A Harp, a Ruin, and a Refusal to Fit In
Katrine’s path was unconventional from the start. At 11 she fell for the harp after hearing it for the first time, and by 18 she had emigrated from Denmark to London alone, building a 16-year career as a professional harpist touring Europe. She talks about why the harp was dismissed for centuries as “a woman’s instrument,” and how that same trivialization shows up everywhere women’s work gets quietly sidelined. Later she and her husband bought a ruin in the south of France and spent years restoring it room by room into a manor house with a concert hall on the top floor.
Becoming Real
The turning point came in an unexpected place: a classroom of teenagers. Coming from the world of classical music, Katrine assumed she could play the role of teacher the way she played roles on stage. The kids refused to accept anything but the real her. She describes how getting rid of the masks, becoming vulnerably herself, was the only thing that worked, and how it taught her she was acceptable exactly as she is.
That lesson became her whole philosophy. Katrine makes the case that we function holistically, that you cannot be one person at work and another at home without exhausting yourself, and that staying yourself everywhere is the only real path to feeling good about who you are. She shares her most unexpected core value, beauty, and why she now allows herself to always choose it over convenience, practicality, or what other people take seriously.
The Life You Didn’t Choose
Katrine and Karen dig into how much of a life gets built by happenstance. The school you didn’t pick, the work you fell into, the past you keep dragging forward because predicting the future feels safer than reinventing it. Katrine offers a reframe that reaches past gratitude: your life can already be good and you can still want more. Wanting more does not make you ungrateful. It makes you willing to become the woman that “more” requires.
The conversation moves through boredom as a quiet aggression toward your own reality, the pull of the supporting role, and why taking full responsibility for your outcomes is both terrifying and the whole point.
Beauty as a core value. Katrine shares her most unexpected core value and why she now allows herself to always choose beauty over convenience, practicality, or what other people take seriously. She and Karen connect this to boredom as a quiet aggression toward your own reality.
Closing Thought
Her baseline, the question she has carried since emigrating alone at 18: when you reach the end, will you regret having tried, or regret never having attempted it? Katrine’s reminder is that it is never too late to evolve. Second wind women, she says, could just as easily be eighth wind women.
